Albanian is an outlier in the Indo-European language family which showcases a degree of unique linguistic position that makes it fascinating for scholars the world over. Far from being confined to the borders of modern Albania, it is also used in Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and parts of Greece and Italy. The existence of two major varieties, Gheg in the north and Tosk in the south, adds another layer of diversity to the regional nuances that enrich the Albanian-speaking world. In recent years, the Albanian diaspora has played a pivotal role in expanding the global footprint of the language. Communities abroad actively contribute to its preservation and promotion.
In cooperation with SSEES PROLang, seeFField cordially invites you to the discussion of Albanian studies in the global context on 30 January, 3-7 pm (London time). Several academics from around the world will discuss the challenges facing the teaching of Albanian as a foreign or heritage language, and more generally Albanian studies abroad.
